Twitter thread shows how much data Google, Facebook has on you, and it's scary
If you are someone who thinks that
only you know your whereabouts, then this Twitter thread will definitely turn
your head around. Dylan Curran, a web developer, and technical consultant has
shared some scary findings of how much data Google and Facebook has on you
'without you even realizing it.'
In a series of tweets, which has
been retweeted more than 200k times, and got a shout-out from NSA's
whistleblower Edward Snowden, shows how detailed information about an
individual is harvested by internet giants Google and Facebook.
If the tweets are to be believed,
Google keeps a record of a person's location every time their phone is on.
It also keeps a timeline of place a
person has been since they started using it. Google also keeps track of all the
places on a small map called Timeline.
The developer also states that
Google stores 'search history across all your devices on a separate database.'
'So even if you delete your search history and phone history, Google STILL
stores everything until you go in and delete everything and you have to do this
on all devices.'
The tweets suggest that Google also
creates an advertisement profile based on your personal info, which can even
have your 'possible weight.'
'Google stores ALL of your YouTube
history, so they know whether you're going to be a parent soon, if you're a
conservative, if you're a progressive, if you're Jewish, Christian, or Muslim,
if you're feeling depressed or suicidal, if you're anorexic,' wrote Curran.
Apart from Google, Facebook also has
a lot of data on you. The social media giant keeps track of every message
you've ever sent or received, alongside all the contacts on your phone and all
the audio sent to and fro. The company also stores what it thinks might
interest you based on posts you've liked and 'what you and your friends talk
about.'
These findings became even scarier
when Curran shared screenshots of the 'Google Takeout document,' that shows
'all the different ways they get your information.'
