Vivo smartphone with high screen-to-body ratio and
flip-up camera hits the web
Vivo carriers the credits for being
the first smartphone brand to make use of the Synaptics Clear ID under-display
fingerprint sensor. Well, the talk is about the Vivo X20 Plus UD. While the
other companies such as Apple and Samsung are struggling to come up with such
smartphones, it looks like Vivo is already working on another device with an
in-screen fingerprint sensor.
A photo of a mysterious Vivo
smartphone has been leaked on Weibo. From the leaked photo, it looks like the
device will have a very high screen-to-body ratio that was never seen before.
Also, it is believed to feature an in-display fingerprint sensor.
As of now, there is no information
regarding the specifications and name of this unknown Vivo smartphone. The
photo shows that the bottom has a relatively thicker bezel while those are the
sides and top are pretty thin. This shows that the screen-to-body ratio will be
over 95%. The screen size of this smartphone remains unknown but it looks like
the aspect ratio of the display will be 18:9 as the display appears to be
elongated.
As the top bezel is quite thin, it
looks like there is not enough room for the selfie camera, sensors and
earpiece. We have already seen such a situation with the Xiaomi Mi Mix 2 that
made the company position the selfie camera at the bottom bezel. However, Vivo
appears to have taken a different route as there appears to no selfie camera at
the bottom bezel.
At a time when selfies have become
the trend and other manufacturers coming up with selfie-centric smartphones,
the absence of a front-facing camera sensor on this alleged Vivo smartphone
makes us doubt the authenticity of this leaked photo. However, there is a
possibility for this smartphone to have a single rear camera with the flip-up
functionality so that it can double as the selfie camera too.
New Honor smartphone with quad cameras
Honor, the sub-brand of Huawei has
already announced two smartphones with quad cameras and these are the Honor 9i
and Honor 9 Lite. Now, it looks like the company is prepping yet another
smartphone with the quad-camera setup. We say so as a mysterious Honor
smartphone has visited the TENAA certification database in China with the model
number LND-AL30.
Going by the TENAA database, there
is no information when it comes to the specifications of the Honor smartphone
carrying the model number LND-AL30. However, the images those have been
revealed by the certification website shed light on its design. It is speculated
that the device could be a toned-down variant of the bestselling mid-ranger -
the Honor 7X.
From the images, we get to know that
the alleged Honor smartphone will sport a metallic rear panel featuring dual
cameras along with LED flash and a fingerprint sensor as well. The front of the
smartphone also has a dual camera setup and a tall and elongated display with
an aspect ratio of 18:9. This makes us believe that the smartphone might be the
third such quad-camera phone to be launched by Honor.
Though the specifications of the
Honor smartphone LND-AL30 remain unknown for now, we can expect the same to be
surface online in the near future. While there is no guess on the name of
device from its model number, there are speculations that it could be a
toned-down variant of the Honor 7X that could be launched as Honor 7C Pro or
Honor V10 Play.
Lately, Honor announced the 9 Lite
smartphone in India at a price point of Rs. 10,999 for the base variant with
3GB RAM and 32GB storage and Rs. 14,999 for the high-end variant with 4GB RAM
and 64GB storage space. Having said that, we can expect the upcoming smartphone
that is likely in the making to also be launched in the affordable market
segment.
Having said that it could be a
toned-down variant of the Honor 7X, this mysterious Honor smartphone with quad
cameras is expected to be priced lesser than the 7X. However, we need to wait
for an official confirmation from Honor regarding this smartphone.
Android Nougat dethrones Marshmallow to become
Google's most popular OS
Just after 18 months of its release,
Google's mobile operating system Android Nougat has become the most popular
version of the OS. The latest Android distributions charts provide an insight
into the popularity of several Android OS versions. Meanwhile, Android
Marshmallow has now been dethroned as the flag bearer for Google's arsenal of
operating systems.
Besides, Android Oreo has also
passed the one percent adoption mark within five months of its launch. The
company released its distribution chart for February 2018 where Android Nougat
grabs 28.5 percent of the market share, while Marshmallow slips to the second
spot with 28.1 percent of the whole market share. The third position on the
charts was secured by Android Lollipop with 24.6 percent market share. Android
Nougat has witnessed steady growth for the past several months, growing up to
2.2 percent from January. Nougat 7.1 grabbed 6.2 percent up from 5.2 percent in
January. Both Nougat 7.0 and Nougat 7.1 were at 20.6 percent in November last
year and reached up to 26.3 percent in January.
Android Marshmallow and Lollipop, on
the other hand, faced decline from their respective market shares. What's more
interesting is that Android 4.4 KitKat is still in the business grabbing 12
percent of the whole market share. The long-dated OS - Android Gingerbread
still has 0.3 percent of the market share.
The distribution charts are based on
the number of devices visiting Google Play, which is only compatible with
Android 2.2 and above.
Google is constantly pushing updates
to its platforms to make the user experience smooth and hassle-free. And if you
are a Google phone user then your smartphones will be the first to taste these
upgrades. In January, the company released a new security patch for supported
Pixel and Nexus devices. The patch was pushed for Nexus 5X, Nexus 6P, Pixel,
Pixel XL, Pixel 2, Pixel 2 XL, and Pixel C, aiming to provide a secure
experience to its users. The January 5 patch fixed up to 18 vulnerabilities,
while the former January 1 patch took care of 20 vulnerabilities.

Samsung Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9 leaked render shows
Lilac Purple color variant
Samsung is pretty bad at keeping
secrets, especially when it comes to its flagship smartphones. A few days back,
reliable tipster Evan Blass had posted a render said to be of the Galaxy S9 and
Galaxy S9 . The render showed the front panel of the smartphones, revealing
their design. However, we didn't get to take a peek at their rear panels.
Well, Evan Blass is back again with
another render of the Galaxy S9 duo. Unlike the previous picture, the latest
leak shows the smartphones from various angles. Both the Samsung Galaxy S9 and
Galaxy S9 are sporting a Lilac Purple color, but the tipster says the
smartphones will come in other color options as well.
Other than the Lilac Purple, there
will be Midnight Black, Titanium Gray and Coral Blue variants. Talking about
the design part, the Galaxy S9 is shown to feature a single rear camera
accompanied by an LED flash. The fingerprint scanner is placed just below the
camera module. You can also see the branding and the smartphone's name at the
back.
The rear panel of the Galaxy S9
looks nearly identical to that of the Galaxy S9. That being said, the former is
equipped with a dual camera setup at the back. The camera sensors are arranged
vertically, with an LED flash on the right.
Coming to the front part, the Galaxy
S9 and Galaxy S9 don't have much differences with their predecessors in terms
of design. Of course, the bezels are slimmer now, but all in all they look
pretty familiar.
Unfortunately, the tipster doesn't
reveal the secondary image sensor that will be present on the device. Existing
reports suggest that the Galaxy S9 duo's camera will have variable aperture
where the lens can be shifted between two difference apertures.
With just a few weeks left for the
Galaxy S9 series launch, we expect more leaks centering the smartphones to
emerge in the coming days. So by the time the smartphones get officially
unveiled, we would know almost everything about them.
